I had an item in my cart, but when I tried to process the payment, I received a notification that the item was no longer available. What happened?

The website is built using Squarespace, and for the most part, it works really well! However, at the moment, until the payment for an item is processed, that item stays in the inventory. This means that when an item is down to just one remaining, it's still possible for more than one person to put that last item into their cart, because the website doesn't realize it's sold out until one of those people processes the payment. 

This is a terrible feature, and I would love to change it so that the inventory depletes as soon as someone adds the item to their cart, but unfortunately this is not an option via the Squarespace model right now. 

If this has happened to you, I am SO SORRY!! I’m hoping that this feature is something that Squarespace will fix soon, but for now, there doesn’t seem to be a solution.

Do you have a storefront? Where are you located?

At the moment, Butter is a registered home-based bakery, operating in the east end of St. John’s. All orders are prepared fresh and from scratch, and delivered to your door (in the greater St. John’s area).

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, macarons are naturally gluten-free! However, it is important to note that all products are prepared in a kitchen where flour is used on a regular basis.

Do you have dairy-free options?

Unfortunately, no. All of my products contain butter and/or eggs.

Do you have nut-free options?

While there are often menu items that do not contain nuts as an ingredient, there are nuts in regular use in the bakery, so unfortunately no product can be guaranteed nut-free.

Do you use shortening?

Never! Only real butter is used in all baked-goods and buttercream. 

How far in advance should I order?

Ordering is available beginning on Monday at 9:00am (for delivery on Friday of that same week). You can order online any time after the menu is posted on Monday, until ordering is closed on Thursday - however, there are a limited number of each item available, so the sooner the better. Sometimes everything can sell out quite early, especially near holiday weekends!

Can I place an advance order?

At the moment, I can’t accept advance orders - all orders must be placed via the website.

How can I pay?

Payment is accepted at the time of online ordering by any major credit card.

Can I order a custom cake?

At the moment, I’m not taking orders for custom cakes. However, the weekly menu will include at least two different cake styles / flavours to choose from, and you can add a personalized message to any cake for no extra charge!

Can I pick up my order, rather than have it delivered?

Due to City of St. John’s and insurance regulations, I cannot have clients pick up their orders. However, delivery is free of charge within St. John’s (and $5 for Paradise and Mount Pearl), and I can schedule the delivery for any time between 9:00am and 4:00pm on Friday!

Do you charge tax?

Yes. Butter Bakery is registered with the CRA (HST #: 79186 1719 RT0001). All prices listed are before tax; 15% HST will be added to your invoice.

Will a 6″ cake really serve 10-12 people?

Yes, and maybe even more! Each cake is actually made up of three cakes, separated by two layers of buttercream, making them at least 6″ high!
